heArt #131 Butterfly Tattoo ACEO Wednesday, Feb 20 2008

Yesterday I enjoyed playing with my colored pencils so much I decided to do a simple heart ACEO. (ACEO stands for “Artist Card Editions & Originals”.) I’ve been doing a lot of research in anticipation of creating a full website and I keep running into “tattoo designs”. It wasn’t my intent when I started, but by the time I finished it I thought this would make a cool tattoo.

heArt #28 “Spider Woman” Wednesday, Jun 13 2007

This heArt is inspired by a deity of the Hopi of the southwestern United States known as spider woman. She’s been coming into my imagination lately and gently tapping me on the cheek with the pointy tip of one of her legs. She is human and not human at the same time. Like the Voodoo loa, I don’t know why I’m connected to the deities and spirits of the southwest, and why particularly the Hopi, but I am. I mean no disrespect. I just draw what’s in my heart, even when I’m not sure how it got there.

heArt #28 “Spider Woman”

I used a Rotring cartridge ink fountain pen made for drawing and thick italian paper, about 1/8th inch over 2.5 x 3.5 inches in size. I replaced the paper in photoshop for a flat white background to put it up on the blog…for now.

heaRt #26 “Rune: Kaunaz” Sunday, Jun 10 2007

This rune appears to have a double meaning. It can mean sickness, particularly ulcers, or creativity and new beginnings. It is all connected with the underworld. I’m going to take a leap and say that the “ulcers” were not to be taken literally but intended to represent the metaphorical wound of the soul. Creativity and the wounded soul go hand in hand and is the realm of the shaman or magician (Odin and Freya).
