Adventures in learning Adobe Illustrator continue. I’m sure this will look really rudimentary to me as I learn more but for right now it’s beautiful! Had to learn some things and cross some hurdles just to get this much accomplished. Illustrator can be very different from Photoshop at times.

My first adventure with Adobe Illustrator. I have to admit, the drawing is much better quality. Added the color in Photoshop because I know what I’m doing there.
This one looks like a wedding invitation to me. Or is it just that I was tuning into someone who stopped by with a wedding announcement just as I was finishing up with it? I swear I was thinking wedding for at least 20 minutes before the knock on the door.
I seem to be stuck on this color palette. I did the background in Corel Painter Essentials 2, then did the rest in Photoshop CS2. I used some splatter and frames Photoshop brushes by BSilvia at graphics-illustrations. The fuzzy white brush and the sort of sequins/beads brush on the heart are my very own creations.
I’ve been spending most of my creative efforts the last few months on my webpages, or lenses as they’re called, on the Squidoo website. Once you have fifty lenses you can apply to be what’s called a Giant Squid which has a few perks although to be honest I’m not sure what they are. At the very least it does seem to give a certain elevation in status within the Squidoo community.
Once I finished the lenses I learned that I had to apply with a lensography, or list of my lenses. I decided I had to illustrate my lensography to make it a little more interesting. This heart is the illustration for the section called “The Patio of Art and Miracles” which is a group of lenses about Mexican spiritual arts and culture such as The Day of the Dead and the practice of using milagros, or talismens, to petition saints for miracles. Check out my lensography for more: An Intuitive Lensography.

This was the sketch for an art project i’ve been working on. In the end the project went in another direction but I think this is pretty cool. I never thought I’d ever be drawing a stethoscope!
Drawn/painted in Photoshop.
Created in Photoshop.
Admittedly, the hearts are hard to find in this one, but they’re there masquerading as snowflakes. I made this in Photoshop with the freely downloadable brushes from BSilvia at Graphics-Illustrations. Her “snow scenes” tutorial was my inspiration. I used the Snowy Sky, Swirls (around the tree’s star), Christmas Trees Grunge, and Grunge Heart brushes.
